Raising Our Children

"Life is not easy; good times are not promise, memories are not always perfect, but when you have beautiful children you love, respect, and would fight life to the end for, like I do, life creates a kind of paradise … and nothing else matters."

Welcome to SingleBlackParents.com
This info-portal was an idea that first morphed into a newsmagazine for single parents in the 5 boroughs of NYC. After some success as a newsmagazine I decided to reach an even broader audience with a website. I, and other successful single parents, have something to share. As a single parent raising an African American child I discovered there were no magazines, newspapers or websites that spoke directly to me as a single parent. No one spoke to me in a positive way about the dynamics of single parenting. No one gave me empowerment tools.

Furthermore, most of the statistics on African-American single parents paint a picture that is not reflective of me nor my many friends, relatives or colleagues who are single parents, but neither poor nor uneducated. No matter how you came to be a single parent there are single parents (male and female) who are making it happen financially, emotionally and spiritually as they face the same challenges as dual parent households.

We are bombarded in the media with images of dysfunctional single parent households, a distorted view of single parenting. Singleblackparents.com will pursue visibility for hard working, conscious single parents. Through our articles by African American psychologists, educators, health professionals, business people and columns like Aminisha Black’s The Spirited Parent we seek to dispel misconceptions concerning the Black single parent profile.

Singleblackparents.com will address wholeness in mind, body, and spirit because that is what is required to raise children in this embattled and chaotic world. It is about our survival for future generations. Singleblackparents.com will inform single parents of the resources available to them. We hope to make a difference in the lives we touch for all single parents raising children. Our mission is to continually inform single parents in every way that they are not alone.

Warm regards,

Publisher
